Speakers: Ari Laaksonen (FMI), Maria Lbadaoui-Darvas (MeteoSuisse, EPFL/FORTH)
Title: An adsorption theory of heterogeneous nucleation of water vapor on nanoparticles.
This seminar is based on work published in Viisanen et al., Langmuir, doi:10.1021/acs.langmuir.4c02950, 2024. Background is provided by Ari Laaksonen based on prior published work and describes the development of a new new heterogeneous nucleation theory (adsorption nucleation theory) that can explain a variety of phenomena, here the decades-long unexplained phenomena of adsorption–desorption hysteresis of water that occurs on various
nonporous surfaces (down to low relative humidities).
About the seminar series: MD@EFFA (molecular dynamics at EPFL, FMI, FORTH and Collaborating groups) is an ad-hoc group that aims to collabroate and discuss about molecular dynamics applications in atmospheric sciences and related fields. Established in 2023 by Maria Lbadaoui-Darvas (MeteoSuisse, EPFL/FORTH), the main interaction is the establishment of a monthly seminar series. Here we post some of the recordings that involve published work and is of broad interest.
IF you would like to join the MD@EFFA group or hear more about the seminars, please send an e-mail to maria.lbadaoui-darvas@epfl.ch or athanasios.nenes@epfl.ch
