Honouring the people behind the science
CleanCloud is
doing a lot to advance our understanding of aerosol-cloud interactions
(ACI) and pushing the boundaries of climate science. This would have
been impossible without our amazing team of Early Career Scientists.
One such individual is Dr.Eemeli Holopainen, a member of the LAPI@FORTH team
that made key contributions to the modeling, seminar series and other
aspects of CleanCloud. He is now a Scientific Researcher at the Finnish Meteorological Institute, but still affiliated with us and contributing to the project.
To
honor Eemeli and his contributions, as well as what was accomplished in
the first year of CleanCloud, our group organized a trip to Lepanto (Ναύπακτος). More than a scenic visit to a historic town across from Patras,
it was a moment to reflect on the people, the passion, and the purpose
that drives our mission. From castle tours to coastal strolls, it
reminded us that science is not just about data and models, but about
collaboration, curiosity, and community.
CleanCloud is working to:
☁ Advance the understanding of aerosol-cloud interactions (ACI) and their role in the post-fossil transition
📉 Reduce uncertainties in climate models for better short and long-term projections
🧠 Integrate machine learning with models and observations for improved ACI representation
⛈ Improve predictions of convective systems and extreme weather events
🛰 Contribute to satellite calibration/validation and their integration into climate models
🤝 Build stronger bridges between scientists, stakeholders, and policymakers
📚 Provide vital knowledge to the IPCC and boost public awareness on climate science
Let’s continue to invest in people, science, and the connections that make progress possible. 🌍
