Fifty researchers from Greece and five European countries are on the summits of Mt.Helmos in the Peloponnese, Greece and at an altitude of 2,300 m they are measuring the interaction of aerosols with the clouds in the area, a study that contributes to the development of our knowledge of the processes of the water cycle, climate change and air pollution. Since the beginning of October 2021 (and for a few months following that) a large international experiment codenamed CALISHTO (https://calishto.panacea-ri.gr/) has been carried out there. This study will reveal new information about the water cycle and climate change, air pollution.

The station (HAC2) is part of the international Atmospheric Monitoring network of the World Meteorological Organization. The experiment is coordinated by the National Center for Science Research "Demokritos", the National Technical University of Athens, the Center for Atmospheric Quality and Climate Change Studies at the Institute for Chemical Engineering Sciences of the Foundation of Research and Technology Hellas in Patras, and EPFL, while four more research groups from France, Germany, Finland and the United Kingdom also participate. and another 5 from Greece.

Πενήντα ερευνητές από την Ελλάδα και πέντε ευρωπαϊκές χώρες βρίσκονται στις κορυφές του Χελμού και σε υψόμετρο 2.300 μετρούν την αλληλεπίδραση των αερολυμάτων με τα νέφη της περιοχής, μελέτη που συνεισφέρει στην ανάπτυξη της γνώσης μας για τις διαδικασίες του κύκλου του νερού, της κλιματικής αλλαγή και της αέριας ρύπανσης. Από τις αρχές Οκτωβρίου, εκεί εκτελείται ένα μεγάλο διεθνές πείραμα με την κωδική ονομασία Callistho. Η μελέτη αυτή θα αποκαλύψει νέες πληροφορίες για τον κύκλο του νερού και την κλιματική αλλαγή, την αέρια ρύπανση .

Ο σταθμός είναι ενταγμένος στο διεθνές δίκτυο Παρακολούθησης της Ατμόσφαιρας της Παγκόσμιας Οργάνωσης Μετεωρολογίας. Το πείραμα συντονίζουν το ΕΚΕΦΕ Δημόκριτος, το Εθνικό Μετσόβιο Πολυτεχνείο, το Κέντρο Μελετών της Ποιότητας της Ατμόσφαιρας και της Κλιματικής Αλλαγής του ΙΤΕ στην Πάτρα, και το Πολυτεχνείο της Λωζάνης στην Ελβετία ενώ συμμετέχουν και τέσσερεις ακόμα ερευνητικές ομάδες από γαλλια γερμανια φιλανδια και Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο) και άλλες 5 από την Ελλάδα.
