According to the World Health Organization, the combustion of biomass burning releases a large amount of pollutants into the atmosphere that directly affect human health. Athanasios Nenes, Professor of Atmospheric Processes at the EPFL and affiliated researcher at the Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences of the Foundation of Research and Technology Hellas in Patras, Greece, who investigates climate change and its effects, spoke to ERT3 about what suspended particles can do to the lungs, about which are the groups at high risk from exposure to smoke, as well as when this cloud of smoke from the summer wildfires will leave Greece.
