Seminar 04 (June 26, 2024) of the CleanCloud series. Speaker is Prof. Mira Pöhlker (Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research (TROPOS)).
Abstract:
Remote locations that allow for the study of pristine air, as an approximation for preindustrial conditions, are becoming increasingly rare due to human influence on Earth and its atmosphere. Understanding climate and global environmental changes makes these locations of particular scientific interest. Results from aerosol formation and aerosol-cloud interaction were obtained from the Amazon Tall Tower Observatory (ATTO) in the Amazon rainforest, a region often referred to as the “green ocean”, as well as from a marine background site on Barbados within the Atlantic trade winds, and using the research aircraft HALO above the Atlantic and Pacific oceans representing the “blue ocean”. The seminar talk will bring you to these unique regions and give you an understanding on aerosol formation sources and effects.
