This is a video about the 7th Summer school of the
Hellenic Association for Aerosol Research (HAAR):
Theory and practice of aerosol chemistry and engineering for climate, air quality, emissions and health effects.that took place at
Navarino Environmental Observatory (NEO) in Messinia, Greece from 12-18th of June 2025.
The objective of the summer school is to train young researchers (Master
and PhD students mainly) on state-of-the-art instruments for
determining the key properties of atmospheric aerosols, the tools for
analyzing and interpreting the data, and the knowledge for putting those
in the context of climate change. It included a number of Lectures and hands-on training, which lasted all day, followed by afternoon and evening activities (movie nights, swimming and other) in the beautiful Greek Peloponnese countryside which provided ample opportunities for relaxed networking, scientific discussions and fun.
This years' lecturers and their topics covered were:
- Alfred Wiedensohler (ACTRIS-CAIS-ECAC): Physical properties of atmospheric aerosols
- Spyros Pandis (University of Patras and CSTACC/FORTH): Organic Aerosols
- Manos Manousakas (NCSR-Demokritos): Aerosol source apportionment techniques
- Spyros Lykoudis (National Observatory of Athens): Statistical analysis for data treatment
- Katerina Bougiatioti (National Observatory of Athens): Aerosol Thermodynamics
- Athanasios Nenes (EPFL, CSTACC/FORTH, U.Patras): Aerosols, Clouds, Precipitation and Climate
- George Biskos (Cyprus Institute and Delft University of Technology): Novel sensors for aerosol measurements
- Georgia Kastrinaki (Chemical Process & Energy Resources Institute, CERTH): Aerosol Particles and Health Effects
- Martin Rigler (Aerosol Magee Scientific): Measurements of absorption of atmospheric aerosols
- Carsten Kykal, Torsten Tritscher (TSI): Particle size analysis
- Stratos Bourtsoukidis (Cyprus Institute): Gas phase precursors of aerosols
- Michael Pikridas (Cyprus Institute): Back-trajectory analysis
Hope to see you there next year!
