After a warm-up about existence of retractions of acyclic cofibrations and sections of acyclic fibrations, we begin to study a model category structure on the category of chain complexes over a field.  We show that the category is complete and cocomplete, that 2-out-of-3 holds, and that WE, Cof, Fib are all closed under retraction.
