Seminar 02 (April 24, 2024) of the CleanCloud series.
Speaker is Dr.Ulas Um (Aarhus University) and coordinator of CleanCloud.
Abstract:Air pollutants such as particulate matter, tropospheric ozone (O3),
and methane (CH4) act as Short-Lived Climate Forcers (SLCFs). SLCFs are known
to contribute to both air quality degradation and climate change. Since the
atmospheric lifetimes of SLCFs range from a few hours to several years, their
control has substantial potential for rapidly mitigating warming, in the Arctic
and globally. In frame of the latest assessment of the Arctic Monitoring and
Assessment Programme (AMAP), several Earth system models and an emulator
have been used to simulate how SLCFs and their impacts on Arctic and global
climate, as well as air quality and human health will evolve in the future under
different emission scenarios.
